Cultivation
With our eye for quality, we always supply the most beautiful and best flowers and cuttings. All year round. Our range blooms early and late in the season.
Floriculture
At Borst Flowers we have more than 25 varieties of peonies, which we grow on 15 hectares. Exclusivity and high quality are paramount for all our peonies. We continuously try to discover new varieties that make us unique and make a difference for the customer. With a few varieties we are currently the only one on the market.
We always look closely at the market and know which properties of the flowers are most important for both the grower and the consumer. Consider the quality of the stem, the correct and equal ripeness of the flowers and excellent bud presentation.
It is our passion to market the end product as beautifully as possible. We spend a lot of time and attention on the way we harvest. To ensure equal ripeness of the flowers, we go through the plot lanes several times over seven to ten days to cut away the flowers that are ripe at that time.
We have a diversified range that blooms both early and late in the season. This means you can enjoy peonies all year round.
Cultivation of cuttings
We grow our cuttings on more than 20 hectares. Every year in September, the cuttings are harvested with a harvester, after which they are rinsed clean in the washing plant. We have complete control over this so-called hot water treatment. This way we ensure that work is always done hygienically and we prevent cross-contamination.
The cuttings are always delivered in the correct size. We consider uniformity in the batches of cuttings to be very important. Some of the harvested cuttings are intended for the propagation of new varieties. They can also be used for growing peonies on the plots of our partners in North and South America. The other part is for the trade in planting material and is sold directly to our customers.
Our approach
From cuttings that are planted with the ultimate goal of flower production, the flowers are headed during the first two years. The first flower harvest only takes place in the third year. In this way we ensure that heavy tubers are formed in the ground, which produce high-quality flowers. In addition, there is always sufficient crop left, so that we can continue to harvest flowers in subsequent years.
A large part of the flowers are harvested using a harvest belt. They are then taken from the field to the shed as quickly as possible, where they are cooled down. The peonies are bunched both by hand and with the (Havatec) machine. We supply a wide range of products at various auctions every day. In addition, we trade directly with parties that want to trade exclusive peonies.
